Question on Displacement of a body at Uniform Motion

When a body moves from one place to another place then it is called displacement. Displacement can occur due to external force, may be balanced forces or unbalanced forces.

Body displaces either of the types of motion called uniform motion or non-uniform motion.

Topic : Average velocity of body under motion

Velocity of a body is a speed at which body displaces in a given time.

Question : A man traveled 100 m towards north at 10 m/s, then 200 m towards north at 25 m/s. What is the hiker's average velocity?

Solution :

Time taken travel 100 m north (t1) = displacement / velocity = 100m/10m/s = 10 s
Time taken travel 200 m north (t2) = displacement / velocity = 200m/25m/s = 8 s

Total Time taken (t) = t1 + t2 = 10 + 8 = 18 s

Total displacement = 200m + 100 m = 300 m

Average velocity = displacement / time
= 300m/ 18 s
= 16.67 m/s due north
